How to make an eerie eye effect on a photo by using the Dodge tool in photoshop will be teach on this tutorial with just few simple steps. Though is simple but several trial and error process will be needed in order to obtain the desire result.

  1. Open up a photo of a human face with eyes of course. The image i am using can be get at SXC.hu site. Name this layer Face

  2. Then create a new layer, name this layer Right Eye and draw a circle around the pupil, fill the color with #FFE200.

  3. Now change the blend mode of this Right Eye layer to Overlay, then u will get something like as shown on the above picture.

  4. Use the Dodge Tool, in case u don’t know, it’s the tool shown on the above picture. the brush choose the size which is smaller than the pupil size and the range put as Midtone, Exposure 50%.

  5. With all these settings, apply the Dodge tool on the Face Layerwith the shown direction as in the picture. Plus also apply it inside the iris. A few trial and error will surely be needed here as it really depends on how your picture’s eyes are. Anyway, try to get similar effect like on the picture

  6. After u got the effect u want, use the Eraser tool, apply the eraser on the Right Eye layer to remove the unwanted part which is those which are outside the pupil. Then u will get something like the above picture and basically you’re done with it.

  7. Repeat step 2 onwards again on the other eye. Carefull on the amount of Dodge u apply as you may end up getting a different effect compare to the eye which u had done previously.
  8. With a bit of Curve Adjustment and Desaturation, u can get an eerie eye effect as shown below. Happy Photoshop-ing!
